-I just got a letter from the library of poetry enforming me that my teacher entered my poem in their contest, i was wondering how common or rare this is? Does everyone who enter get one in the mail? And then it also told me that my poem is going to be published in the book. I was mostly curious at how many people get their poems in this book and how rare or common it is, the letter was saying this is a big deal etc but i really want to know how big of a deal it really is. Does everyone get their poem published? And i know they get thousands of entries and my poem was like a 10min piece of work so i wont be to disappionted if i dont winSome contests are rip-offs or illegitimate contracts that try to persuade you to enter with an entering fee, and then they never judge your poem as all. Seeing as your TEACHER entered you in a contest, I assume it would be reputable. However, depending on the prestige of the contest you entered, it would or would not be a big deal or proof of talent. Let's say you entered a local, small contest, it wouldn't be a big deal--just a suitable poem. If it was a national contest, that would be very prestigious and require talent and creativity. As long as they don't ask for money or deals, or any other shady indications, you are fine.Your teacher was not doing you any favors by entering your poem in that contest. The Library of Poetry is a notorious scam. They don't have to charge entry fees because they make a ton of money selling your own poem back to you in a worthless (and ridiculously overpriced) book full of poems by other suckers who've entered their bogus contest.
Sorry Erin but just looking at this website for this library of poetry I can see that is not too official. It's web design looks like something a 14 yr old student could do. Just be happy about the poetry not the contest. You could win a 500 dollar savings bond though!
It's a scam, everyone gets a letter and everyone gets the chance to get the anthology, that's where they get you, paying an outrageous amount to see your poem in print. Don't send them money.
